Interesting
Cinebench doesn’t get my CPU up to 70C, on Reddit, people’s AMD 3600/X, is getting up to 70C or more. I ran it using Wine. I got it up to 71C running Geekbench.
I’m to lazy to reapply thermal paste.
And the 70C+ scores, a lot are using after market coolers. Mine has two fans on it.
Somebody said the pea method of applying thermal paste might not work for the 3rd gen Ryzen CPUs. I basically put a small dot in the middle, like I always do, with AMD CPUs. Don’t know the correct way for Intel. So put a bigger dot in the middle?
There’s no room on my table to do surgery on it. And, I’m to lazy to move anything. Also, I’m not convinced I need to apply more thermal paste.
Somebody claims only a 3-4C different if you do the dot method. The only way to see how much of the CPU is covered, is by removing the cooler. I could do it on the floor. No need to move anything that way.
Update
Looks like that made it worse, made an X, something on Reddit mentioned an X. Got to 72C when running Geekbench, was 71C before. But the thermal paste might need time, before it’s as effective. It’s some old Arctic MX-4 crap. Out of the stuff that came with my cooler. The stuff I bought once, that actually did something, I’m out of, don’t remember what it’s called either. Started with an M, and it was cheap, but did more then the brand people worship.
The eBay stuff might of been more effective. And are the X lines supposed to be thin or fat? Maybe the excess thermal paste will burn off.
Cinebench is one degree up too. That was pointless. Reddit is a liar, the small dot works fine. No point in redoing it now, not unless I get more thermal paste, that is a better brand, like the cheap stuff I must of ran out of. Not doing anything stays at 31C more then 30C. I could get some more Noctua thermal paste, that’s what came with my Noctua cooler. There is no brand that starts with an M on Amazon.
The email with the thermal paste doesn’t exist anymore. Maybe it’s on Newegg’s site.
It’s thermal grease, apparently Google doesn’t know it’s the same thing.
MASSCOOL Fanner-420 Thermal Grease that’s what I had, and it’s out of stock on Newegg. Probably isn’t made anymore. Boohoo.
And the thermal paste I used, might not be the brand everybody loves. The brand everybody loves is Arctic Silver. No Silver in the brand name of the stuff I have. Well, apparently it’s one degrees worse then a dot.
It’s not even going down to 29C when using Chrome, like it used to. The Silver crap is cheaper. There’s a seller on Amazon with it.
Noctua is probably good enough, costs more, but sold by Amazon, therefore Prime shipping.
Wait a week or two or three or four. That should give the paste time to grow. Like my wiener. Not sold by Amazon, just fulfilled by them, sold by Noctua. Don’t buy it from Amazon directly, they want $20.
I think the MASSCOOL is the holy grail of thermal paste/grease. Might take a week to get it, but might get dried up if I don’t use it for 1+ years.
I’ll buy the Noctua eventually. After I wait to see what this thermal paste does. One degree more, isn’t really worth changing it again. And it’s at a steady 30C. Not going up or down. Before it would sometimes go up to 32C, just by opening the browser.
And opening the browser, after closing it, went to 33C. So one degree hotter. Why did they have to change the CPUs design?
The stuff I used, has good reviews, except probably newer. Says it’s the same, but the brand is somebody I’ve never heard of. I thought the brand was Arctic is all caps.
In that case, I probably put to much on, or it’s old and useless. Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Thermal Grease Paste – 1.0 Gram that comes with a spreader, but is the most expensive, unless you buy Noctua from Amazon directly. Expensive because it’s only one gram. One gram isn’t really much, you’d think Amazon would be selling 100 grams, of weed.
That’s a good point, all thermal paste is basically the same, even if that review claims they aren’t. They didn’t apply the stuff they bought locally correctly. Just like I didn’t. And I’m to lazy to redo it.
Good idea, buy Insignia thermal paste. I like Best Buy’s brand. I had an Insignia TV. I only like TCL TVs now, that has the best picture of cheap brands that I’ve had. Except, my Vizio might of been better.
It probably has a cure time. It’s supposed to be within .5 degrees of the Silver crap, that everybody worships, and that can take 200 hours to cure, and it’s conductive.
So I probably won’t buy new paste. I’ll just reapply the stuff I have, or maybe old thermal paste sucks, in that case buy some more, assuming the same stuff has more grams then Noctua, if not, buy Noctua. Cause the stuff I have costs more then Noctua.
Looks like it’s cheaper, if you find the one without the spreader. And it’s .5 more grams.
One degree higher temperature, might be because the front fans weren’t at full speed. Only got up to 32C when opening Chrome, like with the old thermal paste.
Yup, all thermal paste is the same. Just use toothpaste.
